Photography played an important part of Ted Kinsey’s working life as a graphic designer, however the photos were never his own, so as retirement beckoned, the frustrated photographer came out and the seeds of the website Ted Kinsey – Photographer were born.
As someone with a creative mind and definitive beliefs on what constitutes “real photography”, Ted kept to a set of parameters; he would only shoot on film, only in black and white, and that all images would include a human content.
Ted’s photography hobby had focused more on large projects, which included his Under Glass collection which was exhibited in Paris for a month in 2014, and the fantastic Under Tracks collection, over 300 images celebrating the railway arches of London which featured in an exhibition near London Bridge and saw Ted being interviewed on BBC Radio London.
To allow his work to be seen more widely, Ted had built his website with the help of a friend using the SquareSpace platform. The result was a lovely looking website, but the designer in Ted came out, as he was limited in the changes he was able to make. In short, he couldn’t get the site looking exactly how he wanted it.
We rebuilt the website using WordPress, but also using the Divi Premium Theme by Elegant Themes. This allowed us to customise the website to exactly how Ted wanted it, but also allowed Ted to easily add new images and blog posts, maintain the diary of exhibitions and speaking engagements, and add new sections for his latest projects.
In addition, we helped Ted set the site up on the Siteground hosting platform and installed Google Analytics, as Ted is keen to see that his work has a global audience!
We also helped Ted with a project for one of his other passions, sailing. Along with a friend, Ted decided to travel the length of Scotland’s Caledonian Canal in a Wayfarer dinghy. The website produced was to not only tell their story complete with images, but also to provide useful information and inspirations for anyone else looking to complete such a unique and slightly crazy voyage!
Who said retirement was boring?!

“Simon took on-board all my thoughts about my website and translated them into a first-class finished product – much admired by my fellow photographers.
